For me, photography is all about the thrill of pushing myself outside of my comfort zone, which is holed up with a blanket and a book and some tea, and instead taking a chance that I could either crash and burn or do something marvelous. Probably more like something in between. I've only been photographing people semi-professionally for about 2.5 years, so it's reasonable to assume that I haven't done everything yet and still have a ton to learn. Much to my introverted and perfectionist dismay, to get better at something I have to go out and DO it. So, when my friends Kim and Mark got engaged recently I offered to shoot some engagement photos for free. They are moving to St Louis in a few months so it was also a great excuse to spend some extra time with them and wander around our favorite Fells Point spots. They were nervous about being photographed and I was nervous about the fading light and directing (and Harbor Point blocking the sun!!) so it took us a bit to get comfortable, but in the end I think we got some lovely shots! It was a great learning experience for me and I'm excited to do another engagement or couples session!
